Brands Trading, a maker of traditional dress, T-shirts and small luggage has now repaid the previous loan arranged by Schmooze FM in March 2011. It now has a smaller, current borrowing requirement for its next order from another NGO as it has been able to build up its cash reserves. Brands has an established and reputable client base that includes the Red Cross Society, Rescue International, Plan Zimbabwe, Save the Children, GOAL Zimbabwe, International Medical Corps and National Healthcare Trust.

NGOs in Zimbabwe are active buyers of locally manufactured goods. There are a number of NGOs operating in the country. The business they provide for local manufacturers is lucrative and secure. NGOs have ongoing requirements with Brands for traditional dress, t-shirts and small luggage. Brands acquires raw materials from suppliers (local and external). It employs its own staff to produce the items to be delivered. Suppliers are paid directly by the lender. Brands’ NGO customers contract to pay originating partner Qotho Finance directly once the goods produced by Brands are delivered. In addition to this secure payment method there is other security, typically amounting to twice the loan value.
